Just make sure your rear mats are nice and dry, these cars have a habit of letting water in through broken membrane behind the door cards, easy to fix with silicone, any wind noise is caused by the rear quarter lights, you need to put silicone behind the rubber at the bottom of the glass.

I bought a used 2005 mondeo ST220 driven 50000kms and it turns out it have a gear problem so I took it to the dealer in UAE and asked them to fix it then I found out that the car had same problems before, so I asked them to change the gear, but they refused and said that the manual gear can be fixed (apparently they can't since it happened twice).

I hope Ford reads this and changes their policy. If its broken change it.

I always wanted an ST220 back in the UK but couldn't afford one. Then I moved to Dubai and found they cost around 40% cheaper and bought one straight away. It's a 4 door in performance blue and was 12 months old and cost me 9,500 pounds (13,500 brand new). OK you don't get all the extras here like you do in the UK but gadgets don't interest me.

I've had it for a year and still have a little smile every time I drive it.

Petrol is so cheap here, about 80p a gallon, so I don't mind planting my right foot through all the gears. I have actually had it up to 255km/h (158mph).

Only one problem. the front discs are the same as the back and not the larger vented ones as in the UK (don't know why) so breaking can be a bit scary at high speeds and when the pads need changing the discs have to be skimmed because of sand and high temperatures.

The ST is a great all round car with plenty of room and comfort for the family but much more fun when you're on your own.

I LOVE IT.

I've just purchased a used ST220 in silver, great car.

As for speed, I would say it's not super quick, but it's fast enough. My previous car was a Motegi Honda Prelude 2.2 manual. In comparison to the Honda, it's slower off the mark, but it's quicker 3rd gear onwards. The engine is really torquey and pulls well in every gear.

Overall it's a great package, and I'm very happy with the car. It's a bit greedy on fuel though.

Talking about the ST170, I had a chav in a Focus ST170 inches off my bumper as I was on my way to work in my ST220, he obviously wanted a race so I switched to the other lane and dropped a gear, he couldn't even keep up, the difference was massive by the end of 4th gear, I then slowed down and he passed me looking rather upset.

Ha ha ha. How can people say the ST170 is faster than the Mondeo ST220! I am in a large Ford club and we often have meets at Shakespeare County Raceway (1/4 mile dragstrip).

I was beating matching times in a Sport Ka with one ST170 Focus.

Now I have the Mondeo ST220 and have ran friendly against club members and it leaves them.

Take off the ESP and you get full power from leaving the line.

The Mondeo is a quick car for "what it is".

I also considered a MG ZT 4.6 V8 instead of the ST. 4.6 V8 260bhp! And it's slower than the ST! H ha.

I'm a Ford nut, and with all my respect the Focus 170 is a nice motor but it just doesn't cut it against a Mondeo ST220.
