2002 Ford Mondeo Zetec S review from UK and Ireland
"Practical, fast and fairly fun for a car in it's class"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The rear sub frame bushes needed replacing which is a known issue with these models. The car's three year warranty had just expired costing nearly £400 to fix.
General comments?
The car is thirsty whether it's driven fast or not.
The handling is quite astonishing for a large saloon which makes for fun spirited driving, but the suspension can be a little crashy and firm for general road use.
The car is surprisingly quick and seems to punch above it's weight.
The engine is torquey although could do with slightly more power and the accoustics are not as pleasant as say Alfa's 2.5 V6.
The car now has German build quality, but Ford prices.
The optional polished 18 inch wheels look spectacular for standard items and draw a lot of admiring attention.
I used to own the older (W reg) GhiaX model with the 2.5 engine and I really miss the toys. That car had a fantastic spec, but I have to say this car handles a lot better, looks miles better and the materials are much nicer.
