I never knew Mondeo's were that bad.
I used to own a 1998 Mondeo LX, bought it in 2001 and sold it in 2007 covering 120,000 miles. No problems what so ever.
To be honest the only things I changed were the battery in 2004 due to it dying and the light bulb for the rear brake lights 3 times (kept blowing out) but it was a really good car. It did the job!
Sold it in 2007 for a 2004 Nissan Primera, which is quite good. Practical, does 35-45 MPG easily on motorway and looks great from every angle. The only bad thing is that there is a lack of spare parts which may be expensive and tyres cost a bomb! £130 each!!. But tyre prices have gone up and 16" wheels are becoming a common site, like how 13" wheels were common back in the early 90's. Only changed the battery to date (as I accidentally left the lights on) but otherwise it's a good family car. It does the job as well!!
I don't know why I avoided the mark3 Mondeo, but many people including you guys have said very negative things which now I understand why.
The new MK4 Mondeo on the other hand is fantastic, drove a 2.0 Zetec and it's so nice, very gutsy and quite interesting, but appalled by its 20 - 26MPG in town and 33MPG on motorway!! Cost my work £30.00 for only covering 180 miles in it and petrol priced at 96.6 P.
But next tome may either the new Mondeo (facelift with better MPG) or a 318i as they do 50MPG in future!!
Have had 3 mondeo`s from 1992 to 2003 have found all models reliable and very safe
the 2003 mondeo zetec that I now own, is a beautiful car, lovely to drive nice family car
as with all modern cars, you have to get under the plastic parts but still a simple car to maintain.
Parts are readily available if needed, so I can't really find fault, perhaps others are too quick to find fault!
I have worked with numerous makes of machines and as said previously, they all have their problems.
I have recently purchased a 2001 51 Reg 1.8 petrol LX.
There is only two things with the car I dislike are how far the hand brake comes up (my last car was a 56 reg Focus, so I didn't have to move the hand brake on that far at all compared to the Mondeo), and the other thing is the turning circle on the thing; it's terrible.
Also was wondering if anyone could give me a diagnosis on my car as well:
It shakes uncontrollably when accelerating doing 50mph+.
By saying the car shakes, the gear stick is vibrating like mad, and I can feel the front end wobbling like crazy.
