1994 Ford Mondeo LX review from UK and Ireland

Fan control switch doesn't work at all.

Bought this Mondeo saloon in dark metallic green for £350 off ebay complete with Escort GTi alloys a year ago, because I had to flog my Vectra due to the HG, and then the bottom end was going (apparently I can really wreck an engine).

Have driven the Mondy on the redline ever since I got it, and loved it and had no problems. It went through the MOT for £30 after 6 months of owning it.

Engine doesn't like to be revved too much however, and you don't really get very far once it gets past 5,500rpm, you're better off grabbing the next gear (I've heard the newer Zetec is much more revvy). Have seen 126mph (going slightly downhill) on the speedo though, which I think is pretty good for a 115hp 1.8!

Handling is light years ahead of the Vectra. When pushing on you can really feel the back end helping out, which is great, and it very rarely gets too involved. If it does, it's very easy to control.

Much more fun and predictable than the Vectra, which would understeer 99.9% of the time, then all of a sudden let go. You actually sit in (Mondeo) rather than on (Vectra), which helps a lot when you need to know what's going where.

Only trouble is Mr. Mondy looks about as exciting as Anne Widdecombe (ie. not very), so I'm trading it in for a Focus 2.0 Zetec.

Brilliant car though, there's some bargains to be had, very surprised.
