Hey I own a renault laguna 3.0 v6, 194 bhp, 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, you sure a st24 can beat one of those? lol.

Now you've just ruined this conversation, 1st a french car and 2nd a Laguna, worst of the lot!

Hey, I only mentioned it as someone else mentioned the Laguna V6 vs Mondeo ST24.

My Laguna is the Monaco with sat nav and leather seats etc. It's a manual version and its ex undercover police, so what if it's french LOL, it's a good car.

My dad use to have a Mondeo 1998 Ghia X 2 litre auto. That was nice car, so I'm all for Mondeos, just I saying the Laguna is very fast.

I'm only 18 so I'm lucky to drive a 3 litre V6. My dad now has a Nissan 300ZX non turbo 3 litre V6 manual 222bhp, and the Laguna is just as quick almost.

On to the subject of Mondeos though, they are a lovely car and I would love one myself :) Sorry if I ruined the topic haha.

Hey hey, I just got myself a 1998 S reg black ST24, and am well happy with it, but have a few niggles if anyone can help.

First is a strong blowing sound from the back at high revs. It's not a hole in the exhaust coz I've looked already, and also I get the battery light coming on at over 5500rpm. I think it's the alternator, but just wanted a second opinion on it all.

Hi there.

Your battery light coming on at high revs is definitely an alternator on its way out. I had a V6 Mondy mk1 with the same problem, best to get it replaced as soon as you can to prevent future problems.

Answering your first question, if it is not the exhaust, the 2nd thing I would look at is the boot, check the seals are in good condition with no gaps when shut etc., Also check your wheel bearings are OK by jacking car up and seeing if there is any play/movement in the wheels, as these can cause odd untraceable noises to occur when they start to wear.

Hope this is of some help.

Jeb.

Can I just say to the people who have a tapping or rattling noise in their engine bay near the drivers side; it's the connecting rod bearings that are failing on the crankshaft, in other words, your engine is terminal, and it will lock up when it eats the bearings up.

I know, I have been there, done that, heard the noise etc. If you want to think it's the chains are jumping teeth then whatever, just think for a minute what you're saying in that, because the car wouldn't run if the timing was off, if your plastic guides are broken, then it will rattle for a few seconds 1-2 at start up and then nothing, as the chain gets back onto its normal path.

I agree with the above post about the Mondeo ST24 being a cheap car for performance wise. It's not the fastest by any means, but you can pick them up quite cheap now and drive around in a nice looking car that will eat up the chavy boy racers, and as said parts are quite cheap, and with the right info, easy to fix as well :)

Had my Mondeo 3 years now. Upgraded lots of different parts. Started with a ticking noise coming from the engine when it was warm, I've been told it's the exhaust manifold gasket, which I have just bought and am about to replace, and now have been told it's a major job to do. Is this right?
