1999 Ford Mustang GT review from North America

I replaced the clutch myself. I got a hold of some workshop manuals on e-bay and they were all the instruction I needed to do the job. It was relatively easy. The clutch was $180.00 and the tool rental was about $80. (note: I wrecked the factory clutch myself - this was totally my fault...)

The turn signal/wiper mechanism was replaced because the wipers kept going on by themselves. Warranty Work.

The heater core was replaced because it sprung a leak. Warranty Work.

I replaced the headlights because the plastic frosted up and they looked terrible. I just bought a set off of E-Bay.

It still has to go in for warranty work because it uses antifreeze. There is a recall because the intake manifolds develope small hairline cracks.

It stalls out every once and a while for no apparent reason. Your just driving along and the motor turns off. It starts up again instantly. The dealer was never able to figure out what was wrong with it.

I've had the car for 7 years now and it's still in showroom condition and it still has all it's power. It's a silver convertible V-8 5 speed.

Sure it's had some repairs, but I don't care. I wrecked the first clutch myself and all the other stuff was done under warranty. With the exception of that one lapse in judgement where I abused the clutch, I've absolutely pampered and looked after it.

I didn't buy it to race my neighbor or to show off.

I bought it because, to me, it's a beautiful car. I love the lines. I love the color combination of silver with the black leather interior and roof. The Mach stereo is also really good.

These aren't economy cars and were not designed to be. They have expensive tires, use modest amounts of fuel and the insurance is certainly "up-there".

I live in good old flat Saskatchewan and we have some of the nicest top down summers going. I also go on a driving trip once a year in the Canadian Rockies. Cruising through the Rockies looking at some of the most beautiful scenery on earth. Smelling the fresh mountain air and listening to good music. It's just about as good as it gets.

The Mustang isn't our main family car. We have a Toyota Corolla that does that job. Corolla's have bullet proof reliability, cheap insurance and sip the gas.

Anyway, if you're a Mustang die-hard and you find one of these that hasn't been abused, which is ultra rare, they are are a really decent car. If my car didn't look like brand new, I'd seriously consider buying a 2007 GT Convertible.
