Check Engine light is on.
Exhaust had to be replaced at 154,000 miles.
This car is very reliable.
I drive it daily, and I put a lot of miles on the car.
Throughout the whole time I owned the car, I haven't had to spend more than $1,500 in repairs and replacements.
At over 155,000 miles it still runs great.
I look forward to driving the car every day;
it has never let me down.
Ford has done a great job with the Mustang, and the 1998 is no exception.
A little more power would have made it a better car, but for the price and performance you receive no one can complain.
I don't drive really light on the car. I love to accelerate at stop lights, and the torque of the Mustang never disappoints me.
I would highly recommend a Mustang to anyone who wants a beautifully-looking car with the performance of a sports car and the price of an economy vehicle.
We just bought our 7th Mustang. They get better every year. We had a 1996 (which is basically just like your '98) and it was a very solid, reliable car.
As for the "check engine" light, it could be anything or nothing. Our Fords have had the light come on just because the gas cap was not totally tightened (a common complaint on several makes of cars). Ford's engine computers are VERY sensitive. Our "check engine" light would sometimes come on and then go out if we put another tank of gas in it.
All in all, a GREAT car. Enjoy it.
One of our Fords made 325,000 miles with virtually no repairs, and this month Consumer Reports features a Ford with 488,000 miles on it and no problems. The new Fusion is now the highest rated car in their entire ratings system.
With gas the price it is a V-6 is all you need. It might not be what you want, but are you really going to use the V-8 power? Why spend the extra money on insurance and gas in getting a V-8?
