1994 Ford Mustang GT Coupe review from North America
"Relatively easy on the wallet, faster than the car next to you, and looks good to boot. Buy one!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Tires tend to wear quickly, and I have had to spend $950 to replace with 245/45ZR17 Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 tires that will get maybe 15,000 miles.
When shifting from reverse into drive (car has A40DE automatic transmission), RPMs occasionally drop to 0 and the car stalls. Has occurred in traffic before, although this isolated incidence was chalked up to water in the gas tank.
General comments?
The Mustang has been an American performance icon for over 35 years, second only to the Corvette. The 1994 SN95 redesign not only restored some lost power (returning the car to 215 manufacturer-claimed horsepower and 285 torque), but created one of the best looking cars on our roads today.
My '94 GT coupe with an automatic transmission can keep with or beat a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T 5-speed (0-60 in 6.5 seconds) and is almost as quick as a new GT Convertible (automatic), which would classify it as faster than probably 90% of cars one would encounter on the road.
The interior design is still lauded for its good looks, comfort, ergonomics, and simplicity, and when purchased used like mine, which is 7 years old, represents an amazing automotive bargain, considering I paid $8,650 (excluding tax, title, and tag).
The 5.0L V8 drinks gas like it's going out of style however, and I routinely have to fill up 2 or 3 times per week, at about $15 per time (regular unleaded).
I have only had the car for a little over 1,000 miles and about a month and a half, so I wouldn't expect too many problems, but I've had far less than I would expect from a 7-year old American car.
