Nothing. This car was owned, and bought new by an older man in 2000, rarely ever driven hard, and with only 24,000 miles on this car in 2003 it was in near mint condition.
Out of the three American muscle cars, Camaro/Trans Am/Mustang... The Mustang is by far, hands down, without a doubt a more comfortable, fun, stylish car to drive. I have owned all three cars and will never buy a Camaro or Trans Am again. Ever. First of all, when you drive the F-Body cars, you feel like your in a bathtub gasping for air. Anyone who has ever drivin one of these cars will know what I'm talking about. Seeing out of these Sharks, especially in a convertable with the top up is nearly impossible. The Camaro I owned was a 1994 Z28 with only 30k miles on it, 6-speed trans, LT1 V8. They rated these at 275 Horse I believe. The only thing I really liked about the car was when I spent 2000 dollars to take those Whoreish looking stock wheels off and put some sweet chrome 5 spokes on them. i'll admit the car looked really good, but sucked to drive, sucked to cruise in, the ladies loved it, but its just a drag to drive unless you just want to go really fast in a straight line, And how often are you racing people? The thing that surprised me about the mustang was the performace specs, its faster than the old z28's and trans ams, and is right up there with the new ones. What is it like, 2 tenths of a second slower than a new z28 or trans am? who will ever be able to tell that. The Mustang is Just as fast, More fun to drive, Chicks love it better, Cant beat the Mach 460 audio ( or just add a sub), you can do anything to mustang... add a supercharger to the new GT and run right with a new cobra. By the way, dont waste your time buying a 2001 or earlier cobra, the 0-60 times on those cobras are around 5.4 to 5.6, the GT is 5.6 so, does that answer your question, save yourself 8 grand and be happy with the GT. This car rules in every way possible, Leather is better, Sound is better, looks are better, drivability is better, useability is better, its a Ford baby! Throw on a pair of Flowmasters, add a Sub to the Mach, and your ready for crusing! Good Day
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about my friend. The new F-body cars will smash the hell out of a 99GT, and the Lt1's can still beat the Gt's thanks to their heaps of torque. And as for visibility, don't be such a wuss. I'd rather drive in a sleek looking, low riding T/A than a hyped up sedan that is the Mustang GT. And the handling of the Mustangs is crap, the driving postion is uncomfortable, the shifter and clutch sucks, the Mach sound system is a waste of money and your stoopid fake hood scoop is a joke. Nothing short of a 2004/5 Cobra can compete with the Ls1's and theres no disputing it.

You guy's may be talking about a GT, but my Saleen will rip your LS1 to shreds fella, don't run off at the mouth if your car can't back it up little guy. I've ran down WRX's, SS's, Z28's, and just about everything else under 50k.
Well, they're clearly doing something right since they've been selling them for near 40 years. While chevy had to drop the camaro line because of low sales.
Actually he's sorta right...I've seen more young girls driving mustang's than any real performance enthusiasts... guess you gotta sacrifice something to stay with the times or like the camaro/firebird they will be dropped.
I sadly enough have to agree... although I love my Mustang GT... Mustang's are girl cars these days. The Camaro and Firebird were all about performance, the Mustang is not. Granted a Saleen Mustang is fast as heck and so is the Cobra, but the Cobra's weren't that great from 99 to 03, and when Saleen gets done with the performance modifications it is like an aftermarket package Mustang. It's a shame Ford can't offer something themselves without adding Shelby or Saleen to the mix. Of course I look for some over over zealous die hard mustang fan to attack my comment or say something quirky.
Aparently nobody read road and track test a 01 cobra to a 4.8second 0-60 and 13.5 1/4 mile. Muscle mustangs and fast fords got a 13.34 1/4mile out of a 01 cobra and the rest of the test I saw in magazines were between 13.5-13.7 seconds, which is on par with most test I saw done on ls-1.
Look, everyone knows Ls-1s are fast cars, but the difference between a stock 99-04 mustang and a ls-1 camaro is only about a half second. That can be the difference between a good driver in a gt and a average driver in the camaro. And as far as a 01 cobra not being any faster than a gt, that's bull.I've owned a '98 gt, a '00 gt, and a '01 cobra and I have to say the differance between the cobra and the '00 gt is about the same as the difference between the '00 and the weak '98 gt. The cobra is faster 0-60 and is a lot faster above 60mph.
I've got both an 01 Mustang GT Convertible auto, and a 97 Trans Am 6 speed t-top.
The Mustang's sitting in the driveway looking awesome, sounding better, and is just as fast. Guess where the Trans Am is? That's right, in the shop. All I hear in the T/A is rattles and an electric whine that rises and falls with rpms.
In the Mustang with its awesome REAL (what a concept GM) dual exhaust, that's unless I have the mach 460 pounding away. I'm so mad that I got conned into a car that's supposedly faster when I could've had a 99 GT for about the same price.
I could get an LS1, but that would end up with the same problems, with what 30-40 more hp, definitely not worth it.
I'm selling the T/A and getting me a 99 Mustang GT Hardtop with a 5 speed. Not to mention the girls like the Mustang a lot more; one actually said the car looked like an ugly wannabe bat mobile.
