1987 Ford Mustang LX Convertable review from North America
"An underpowered poorly built pile"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission melted down at 60,000 miles, rebuilt to Ford specs, melted down again at 71,700.
Cooling system failure at 65,000.
Exhaust needed full replacement at 67,000.
Air intake replaced at 61,500 with a big crack in the side. (No good reason.)
Electrical system had tons of failures, never found one general fault. (Fixed at least 5 minor problems in 6 months.)
General comments?
I babied this car, never revved the engine, never spun the tires, changed the oil every 2900 miles, rotated tires regularly, and it just kept falling apart.
The handling was great, it's comfortable, it's a convertible, but I'll never buy another Ford after this. My previous Ford was great, and took getting rammed at 60mph very well, but Fix Or Repair Daily is almost right, at least bi-weekly.
