"Plenty of sports car for the money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I purchased this car as a used rental car from Hawaii. Having said that, there are some problems, such as scratches on the interior plastic and on the outside paint, as well as a light switch that hardly works. Mechanically speaking, however, this seems to be a fantastic car.

General comments?

For the money, you can't get a better deal than a Mustang. It was cheap to buy, and has decent gas mileage.

Also, it definitely is a head-turner. Sure, many people may have Mustangs, but they are still aggressive-looking with decent power, even in the V6.

Mechanically speaking, it's a dream car. The auto transmission shifts so smoothly that you can't hardly tell it's even shifting.

Also, another note on the transmission. I was recently driving down a hill at about forty miles per hour, and I went to shift from second gear to drive, and accidentally threw it into reverse. The engine died and the tires screeched and locked up, but I pulled it off the road and it started back up again with no problems whatsoever. People bash Fords for poor reliability, but this incident just proves to me how high-quality it's products are.

I was aware a console mounted automatic could be shifted into reverse in motion (I had a similar harrowing experience with my column-shifter 1993 Caprice). But I have to wonder why the car was in 2nd in the first place. Were you using it to control speed down a hill? Or do you shift you automatic manually for performance purposes? Hmm...

If you are shifting your Automatic transmission manually, you will damage it and end up paying BIG bucks later on. The Auto is automatic for a reason man...lol

As a mechanic I work on lots of cars. Manually shifting the Ford automatic isn't a good idea, but as a general rule the Ford automatics (as well as the rest of the car) is incredibly rugged and well built and can take an awesome amount of punishment. 3 years ago I had to veer to avoid a car and rammed the right front wheel of my Mustang head-on into an 8 inch high curb at 50 mph. The jolt was so severe it knocked my sunglasses off. I was certain I had trashed the entire front suspension. The only damage was a warped wheel and blown tire. The front end wasn't even knocked out of alignment!! If I'd been in a Honda or Toyota, it would have scattered pieces of the car for a hundred feet.
