The transmission has gone bad at 42,000 miles, and I have to get a new one for $2500. Gees. I did all the services required and just could not figure out why the transmission broke down after just 42K miles.
This Ford Mustang did not give me too much headache over the 4.5 years I owned it. It had some problem start the engine at very low temp. and humid conditions. Other than that, everything works fine. Until last week, the transmission stop functioning correctly, and I have to replace it.
The Ford autos are known to be slushboxes that need replacing early, but that's ridiculous.
I bought my 2000 Mustang LX in 2000 with 17 miles on it. The gasket between the engine and the transmision leaked oil into the transmition about a week after the warranty expired. Now, the transmision is acting up again.
This is the cheapest powerful car you can get. You also get what you pay for and since you pay for power, you don't get reliability, metal screws holding things together (like rocker panels), or peace of mind when the entire car shakes you like a martini as you try to pass firt gear. My idle is at around 750. I have to rev up to 2000 and pop the clutch to avoid the shaking.
Don't buy this car as a long term vehicle. It seems to be good for about 5 years without too many major repairs, then you ditch it and buy something better.
There is no gasket between the engine and trany so what are you talking about?
