The ball joint on my car has completely split in half two times in the past two years!
The cover around my gear shift fell off! There is absolutely no way of fixing it.
Half the time my CD player refuses to eject the cd!
My lights, for some reason, are so dim that I can honestly drive down the road with my brights on with out one person noticing!
The seats have started to wear badly.
Half the time the seat belts refuse to come out, don't lock up, and don't feed back in.
The sealing around my window is bunched up so every time I roll up the window on the passenger side I have to stretch the sealing out and hold on to it while I roll it up.
The car has an extremely bad shaking problem between the speeds of 50 and 60 and no one can seem to find the cause of it.
The brakes went out a month after I got the car and have gone out on me 3 times since then.
I had to pay 14.500 when I bought the car and it is now worth the grand total of 5000 if I wanted to sell it myself. Ford decrease in value so fast it is ridiculous. I will never own another ford or American made car all together.
This is why I rented a '00 V6 Mustang before considering a purchase.. The performance was there, yet I saw how cheaply it was built which ruled out my possibility of buying one. Definitely try out your next car long term if possible before signing any papers.
At least it's honestly falling apart and not lying about it.
I have a 1999 Ford Mustang and still have not had any problems with it. It sounds like all you would need to do to make it last longer is maintenance your vehicle like you would any other. A lot of the problems you mentioned are mainly cosmetic. I am very happy with my 1999 Ford Mustang and hope it lasts for a long time. With the proper love and care, I'm sure it will.
I have a 1999 mustang lx with 139k and it has been the best car I have ever owned I purchased it new with 7miles on it and have never had one mechanical problem I am still amazed with the power of the v6 and the gas mileage the only thing I have done was the maintenance at a ford dealer straight out of the owners manual you have to do the maintenance or all vehicles are disposables.
I'm sorry, but you'll have to explain to me how even perfect maintenance would have prevented the problems the owner had.
I mean, where in the manual does it say how to maintain your CD player so the CDs will eject properly everytime? What maintenance do you do to make sure the seatbelts work everytime? (which in itself is a violation of federal law while under warranty if I'm not mistaken).
My Subaru Impreza, while a very reliable car, has had minor plastic bits break off which have zero to do with maintenance.
In other words, unless the owner is shoving chocolate in his CD player and cramming glue in his seatbelt retractors the car is faulty, and not due to his lack of maintenance.
I have a 99 Mustang GT that I ordered in June 1999 and took delivery in September 1999. The car has 127,648 miles on it and I've only had one problem (a bad bearing in the tensioner pulley). The brakes didn't need replacing until almost 100,000 miles. This has been a great car. I've been through four sets of summer tires and one set of winter tires. All other work has been regular service items (oil changes, wipers, etc.)
My 17 yr old son just bought a used 1999 Mustang LX and this car has 50,000 miles, excellent underbody condition and the paint is original and very smooth, just goes to show that maintenance counts. I'm an automotive engineer and hard to impress and let me tell you I'm impressed.
My 99 mustang LX convertible has had numerous problems. When I first bought it new the windshield wipers would occasionally come on all by themselves. Took it back to the dealer and they replaced the wiper switch. Car came with a 3 year warranty. Exactly 3 years and 3 months after I bought it the alternator died and left me stranded in the middle of the night. Had a re-manufactured alternator put in and that lasted a year and a half. Luckily that one died while my car was in my driveway. My CD player does not readily eject CD's, and also loses its ability to find a track. At 30k miles my car would shake at 50 mph, but I got my wheels balanced and that went away. My car currently leaks about a half quart of oil per month from the main seal, which is very, very expensive to fix.
Some people could tear up asteel ball in a sandbox. Ball joints split?Only if you are driving like Bo or Luke Duke.I've Worked as a mechanic off and on for thirty-some years and most any car will last a long time with maintenance and care. The mustang is a fine car nad I've seen many with 200K miles.
A Ford vehicle falling apart after warranty?? No surprises there.
Sounds to me as though the owners of a "broken" mustang have experienced performance problems that are almost all in accordance with sub-par maintenance.
