Not a comment, but a question - hopefully that's allowed on this forum. We're a UK couple travelling round California later this year and have reserved a Mustang Convertible as a hire car. Our slight concern is over the boot/stowage space, for two adults with moderately large backpacks and a small tent and considering the space lost to the roof. Can I ask if Mustang Convertible owners would advise us to continue with our hire, or if the thought of actually holidaying with this undoubtedly sexy car is just too impractical? Your advice is valued.

Anyone paying 32 grand for a Mustang GT got taken BIG TIME. As for resale value, the one (and ONLY) Japanese car I owned lost exactly HALF of what I paid for it the first year. When you pay full list, you're gonna lose your shirt no matter WHAT you buy. I'd much rather buy an American car that's discounted 10 grand and save my money. There's no difference in quality, it's all advertising hype. My Japanese car was the biggest lemon I ever owned (which is why I basically gave it away after a year).

I'm British and about to import a Mustang so have been reading reviews like this for things to look out for. We don't get the cars here so they hold money very well. infact I can import one and sell it in a years time and I'm likely to make a profit on the car.

The Nissan 3.5V6 is a boring engine yes has OK power makes a rubbish noise and its not even a Japanese engine. It comes from a Renault Vel Satis (a French car). Due to Renault owning Nissan.

But seriously even when I specced up a stang it didn't come to $32k And I added near enough everything except the Shaker 1000. On a GT Premium. Obviously guy had more money than sense. And then to go to a 4 door family car from a Stang. And an ugly 4 door car at that is just silly.

Either way when I get over there to order mine and bring it back I'm gonna love cruising round and having some fun with people on the road I don't plan on keeping it standard that's for sure. I have a few grand I want to spend on brakes, suspension and engine. Seriously looking forward to getting behind the wheel of one.

Even though its not gonna be built as well or as refined or likely handle anywhere near as well as my current car. that's not what this is about. Its the whole appeal of a roaring V8 and a motoring icon that's doing it. That and I like to have rare cars and these things are as rare as rocking horse poop here.

After having read hundreds of reviews and comments on this site, I'm convinced I want a domestic rather than an import. So many unfounded rants by owners (or fans) of Japanese imports with no basis in fact alongside actual owner testimonials and fact-based comments praising domestics have convinced me not to buy another import. We've had experience with 3 and none were as good as our WORST American vehicle. Tomorrow I'm planning to look at a new 2007 Mustang.

I test drove the new 2007 Mustang V-6 yesterday, and I'm VERY impressed!! I've driven a number of cars recently trying to decide what I want. Nothing Japan offers has even a hint of sportiness or excitement, and most domestic cars have become just as boring. The '07 Mustang was a VERY pleasant surprise. Even with the V-6 the car is faster than my previous 5.0 Mustang, and if it gets the rated highway mpg it will get exactly TWICE the mileage of my 5.0!! The retro styling is great, but the feel is very new and very smooth. I'd wanted a V-8, but after driving the 6 I think I'll save several grand and a bundle on my insurance and stick with the 6.

My mom has a '06 GT and I absolutely love it. It has great acceleration and can do decent on gas as well. I look forward to getting one of my own soon.

To the guy who compared the GTO to the Mustang, not everybody can afford a Mustang GT, so they certainly can't afford a 400hp GTO, so they want sporty looks and a car with good speed, they are not going to go with the big time money muscle car, they are gonna go with the little brother of the muscle car. That is why the Mustang is great, anybody can afford one. If you want the V-8 power and you have the money, go for it, if you don't have the cash, but want a cool car with some speed and looks, go with the V-6.

I'm a 75 year old car guy with 33000 miles on my 05 GT 5 speed and I gotta tell ya it's a heck of a ride. All things considered, the best car I've owned. Fast, comfortable, totally reliable, and of course great looks. Even the gas mileage isn't all that bad--18-22 mpg all the time. I don't drive in the slow lane either. Needs suspension and brake upgrades for 100 plus mph. running though. Could use a 20 gallon tank too for better range out here in the west. I carry an extra 2 gallons in the trunk-used it once.

Actually you can probably get a GTO for a lot less than a Mustang right now. Do a dealer inventory search and see how many are sitting on dealer lots and they are already 2 model years old... You can probably snap one up for around $25K without too much trouble. Not bad for a metal Corvette...

The main reason the Mustang sort of shot down the excellent GTO (an Australian Holden Monaro with a different grill) can be summed up in one word: PRICE. With even a loaded Mustang GT going for thousands less than a base GTO (which is pretty well-equipped really) and a V-6 Mustang going for over 10 grand less, 99% of the people will opt for the Mustang (I did). The GTO is a very good car, and fast, but suffers from both price bloat and styling that looks a bit like a Cavalier that over ate. Mechanically it is an awesome car worthy of respect in the muscle car market.

I would love to have a Nissan Maxima pull up besides me and want to race my 05 Mustang GT it would get lost in the dust there would be no competition at all.

OK, what is it with a Maxima, first off it's not made to be a sports car, like the Mustang is, don't get me wrong, my uncle has a fully loaded 05 GT 5 speed and I love it, but get a real Japanese sports car, like a twin turbo Supra, not a half French new Nissan, and put next to the stang, enough said.
