"Must miss the Northstar performance and car's handling to go to a Camry however."
It may be boring, but at least the Camry works right? When it comes to the Northstar engine, how can you enjoy it if it never works correctly?
You have it tuned properly, change the oil at scheduled intervals, keep good tires and brakes on it, and enjoy the performance and handling.
"It may be boring, but at least the Camry works right?"
No, not really. It's only rated "average" in reliability (two full levels below the Ford Fusion) and Toyota just recalled 100,000 vehicles for bad brakes and is embroiled in hundreds of lawsuits in roll-over cases.
At least Toyota is owning up to its responsibilities. Hello GM, Ford, Chrysler. For over a decade GM has known their plastic intake melts causing engines to seize if not caught in time. Their response? They never heard of it. Chrysler? Ever hear of the Caravan? Apparently, a transmission is disposable at 100,000 KM. Ford? well, they have had many issues as well. Ever wonder why GM and Chrysler filed for Bankruptcy protection?
This is just further proof that if you take care of your customers and treat them well, they will come back.
By the way, I have only driven GM and Fords in my 25 years of driving. I still drive my 1991 Buick LeSabre and 2003 Sunfire daily. I have not had any problems with these cars. They are good solid cars. But anything from GM 1995 to present is garbage. Maybe if they admit to problems instead of treating their customers as fools, they would be in better financial position today.
Have you seen their new ads for the Malibu? Instead of attaching positive attributes to their car, they always mention that it has so and so, then say Toyota and Honda don't have this and that? It is such a compliment to be basing their cars and comparing it to a superior product.
What a marketing genius GM has! I would fire that person.
Can't GM have a commercial without ever badmouthing their competition? Sellers pushing inferior products need to resort to this.
The Cadillac was a nice drive, with its type of ride it just floated down the road. I had a nick-name for it, I called it my "boat". The Northstar engine had a lot of zip, but I really did not use it like that. I'm in sales so I purchased the Cadillacs because they would seat 4 adults comfortably and I used it for business to pick up customers at the airports, hotels and at their offices for lunches and such.
I did the regularly scheduled maintenance on it and took care of it. That Northstar engine was suppose to last 300M miles. Mine only had 92M miles on it. Then the car started to have problems over a 6 month period with the engine overheating. I spent over $1500 on a water pump, over-flow bottle and radiator to fix the problem. The engine overheated again and then they found water in my oil.
Bad news... it was going to cost me around $5K to fix the heads and gasket. That engine is a tap and die engine with twist off bolts, thus the expense. The Cadillac mechanic said the best thing that I could do is just trade it. So, that's what I did. But I was mad at GM so I looked at replacing it with an import. So, I traded it that week for my Camry.
Performance wise, my Camry XLE has a V-6 engine and it will zip along also. The Camry is a nice car. I bought it in 2005 and it now has 112M miles on it. It runs like a top.
I want to get my son a Mustang to get him through high school and college. Hopefully, it will run like a top for him!

I suppose it was perfectly OK for Toyota to bash Ford in every Camry commercial in the 90's by showing a broken-down Taurus in every commercial??
I changed my intakes on my GM models to aftermarket ones. Have not learned how to change import transmissions in my driveway. Oh well, what's 4000 dollars anymore?
Just to let you know, I bought my son a Mystic Blue Mustang Coupe for his 16th birthday. He just loves it, the car has great lines. It has the V-6 engine and I have been watching the gas mileage, so far it gets 17 city and 22 highway. This is his car to get him through high school and college. I hope he enjoys it!
