1987 Ford Mustang GT review from North America
"Possible Vette killer."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Obvious things for such an old car. All the little maintainance.
Finding a suitable tranny to handle the 460.
General comments?
This car was driven a little bit and put in a shed for years. I saw it for sale and jumped on it. The 5.0 was okay with a 5 speed, but I was lookin for a project car seeing as my commuter got me where I needed to go.
So I found a 460 engine and rebuilt it. Then dropped it in my stang. Had to do some hack jobs to make it fit though.
Made the mistake of using original tranny for awhile, that blew out and broke down. So I retrofitted an old 5 spd from a ford truck with a shorter throw shifter. Doesn't look to clean, but once you close the hood and get going, this thing hauls ass.
Handling is okay for an older sports car. Interior has been neglected. I'm gonna have to redo it with racing seats and the like.
Accleration and the engine sound through dual flowmasters is just wonderful, there is no other better feeling in the world.
The only thing I should really do soon is to put a HD 9 inch ford rear end on it.
Will race anyone anytime...
