1964 Ford Prefect from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A right rin din'n old motor!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Minor failures have occurred from time to time, mainly with carburation. Ropey original 1.4 engine, therefore this was replaced by the current 1.9 Cortina engine in 1971. I have never had to have the car towed home to date, so pretty good, really.

General comments?

A real driver's car. Good handling, excellent power, and loves the open road. Comfortable interior, still in original state. The car is in pristine condition throughout

Not sure what the car is, but the Prefect went out of production in March 1961 and no model of that name has been built since. Also, the Prefect was fitted with a 997 cc engine, not 1400. In fact, Ford didn't have a 1400 unit in production either in 1961 or 1964.

I'd like to know what it really is!

I was wondering too.. Prefects originally had a 1172cc sidevalve, followed in 1959 by the 998cc anglia 105E engine.

The consul classic had a 1340cc..could this be it?

Also no cortina ever had a 1.9 engine.
