Seats have tear on driver's side, not repaired.
Radio antenna broken, not repaired.
Axle Shaft on manual transmission broken $140.
Radiator hoses broken $40.
Valve Cover Gaskets broken $40.
Tires Treads are worn, to be replaced soon.
Plus service costs and tax, this all added up to about $800. This is nearly half of what I bought it for ($2450)
I was looking for a quick and good looking sports car, and was debating between the probe, mustang, integra and prelude, as well as the Mitsubishi 3000gt. I finally decided on the Probe GT because it was relatively inexpensive for my budget, I had heard it was pretty fast, and it has great gas mileage. I also loved the sleek lines and supercar-esque body; the car seems to grow on me every time I look at it, and does turn some heads.
I was aware that the Probe GT, as the higher performance model was fast, but I was blown away after I actually drove it. Acceleration is truly phenomenal, with an insanely quick first gear - the tumultuous pull of the car doesn't stop until well past 4th gear. I have driven a lot of quick cars, and the Probe GT is up there in the top echelon. The handling is extremely taut and sporty; it truly "corners like it's on rails", and it distinctly reminds me of how my friend's Lotus Esprit handles (although obviously, the two cars are in different leagues). The car is just a blast to drive, and I can honestly say I've never had more fun driving then in my Probe GT. I look forward to getting out of the house, and at first made excuses just to drive it. It really comes alive when taking twisty mountain roads (where there are hopefully not too many people), especially above 3000rpm.
The interior is fairly dull, but comfortable. The controls are easy to reach, and the seats are supportive, but definitely not amazing. Make sure to try and get cloth seats, as I've heard the leather is a pain. The radio, if stock, should definitely be replaced - I have a Pioneer that works fine. Overall, the interior is comfortable, but not anything to get excited about.
I was not impressed, however, with the Probe's reliability; I bought it recently, and had it checked by a mechanic after driving it for awhile - I was very surprised by the bill, and how many things were messed up. I have owned many Fords, and had minimal problems with them, so this was definitely an unpleasant surprise. I am willing to give the Probe the benefit of a doubt, as it is a sports car, and I can't stay angry with it when I'm actually driving it.
Overall, I have greatly enjoyed this car so far, and look forward to owning it for awhile. Its performance is second to none for its class and price range (it really is faster than any 90's model eclipse, prelude, integra, etc, excluding the 3000gt), and it is a blast to drive. Expect to repair it a little more than average, and to see some wear and tear. Don't be surprised when you get it checked and there is quite a bill; other Probe owners I know have told me that this is pretty standard for Probes, especially the GT model. Make sure to stay away from the automatic transmission, as it decreases acceleration and is supposedly a hell on earth to repair and live with.
I can only think of one other car that could even come close to the Probe GT handling and that would be the 1991 Geo Metro convertible several times I've battled Probes and won with my slick shifting 5-speed and my powerful three cylinder engine. Yes these are two cars that are serious fun to drive.
