2002 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab 4 X 2 Flareside review from North America
"Top-drawer bargain in a very attractive package and a pleasure to drive - city or highway"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The passenger side seatbelt receiver failed about two weeks following purchase. Dealer repaired same day without an appointment.
General comments?
I owned a '92 Ranger and loved it, even taking it overseas to Guam where it became my "Dive Truck." I couldn't wait to own another.
The fit and finish are outstanding. Paint is flawless.
The styling of the flareside is quite an eyecatcher, the lines nicely complimenting and emphasizing the stunning Toreador Red color and its clearcoat.
Although I shopped for a manual transmission, the automatic that I ended up with is smooth and responsive to the pedal.
Suffering from a bad back, I needed good lumbar support, and I got it. I've been on several long road trips in real comfort. I cannot say the same for my wife's Volvo.
I put a roll top tonneau cover and removable, carpeted, bed liner that have made the bed a giant, waeather-tight trunk. With the tonneau the mileage went up two mpg, and over the first 7,000 miles I've gotten a combined 19.78 mpg (22 mpg over the past 1,000 miles).
This Ranger has all the amenities I wanted on my '92 model... electric windows, mirrors, pass-through rear window, CD player, extra 12 volt power point receptacle and center arm rest storage... all standard issue.
So far, so good. This truck is not lightening quick, but it's got plenty of power for my needs. She's exactly what I wanted at a very affordable price.
