1993 Ford Sierra GLS 2.0 injection from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Last of the great RWD Fords

Faults:

Heater matrix had expired in the winter of 1999. Water pump in June 2000.

General Comments:

Comfortable rear wheel drive car with exceptional reliability. I travel about 25,000 miles a year and I still obtain 37mpg at 75mph.

1993 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 2.0 turbo petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Best Ford ever built

Faults:

Nothing while I've owned it. Previous owner/importer had the engine overhauled Jan 1999 just for maintenance & he went back to the UK for a holiday to acquire hoses, gaskets etc. A couple of parts are hard to get but some bits are shared with Australian models. Some fear that if anything major stops the car, not many people will know what it is let alone how to fix it!!!

General Comments:

Virtually a one off car in Australia. One of the last ones built. Has leather, air, last model upgrades. Absolutely brilliant car that is an unknown quantity to WRX & Evo owner's. They won't come near me.

Fantastic on winding roads, wet days & trips interstate. Absolutely loved this car ever since they were first released in the UK. Never thought I'd own one but you have to be lucky in life sometimes.

I agree that the Sierra Cosworth is one of the best Fords ever built. Great handling and power. But I prefer the much smaller Escort Cosworth. Using the same engine and gearbox as the Sierra, being remarkably lighter, the Escort is more aggressive during overtaking and acceleration. However I love both, the Sierra for its handling and the Escort for its aggressivity.

The Escort Cosworth is 200lb's heavier than the 2wd Sierra Cosworth and a little heavier than the sierra cos 4x4, this is due to the materials used in the interior and the fact the Escort Cossie body shell is built like a panzer tank. From my experience, the Escort has to knock out 250bhp before it can convincingly beat a 2wd Sapphire Cosworth, I know because I built the bloody things!!!!!!

1993 Ford Sierra Azura 1.6 cfi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent, reliable runaround

Faults:

Nothing went wrong with the car.

General Comments:

Beautiful car, very reliable and an excellent bargain, an Azura is a great car (especially in metallic blue). It is only the base model with the smallest engine, not very fast but you can pose in it due to the fact it looks great. If you do get one get an expensive security system as they are very easy to steal! I only had mine 3 months!

1993 Ford Sierra GLSi 2.0i DOHC Efi petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

The car is 5 years old with 40k miles, usual wear & tear items like exhausts and brake pads and just recently the alternator just packed in draining the battery until dead (27/07/98).

General Comments:

Dealer service is just bloody terrible, usual 'cons' - you need this and that sir. Just tell them to stick it!!!
