1990 Ford Sierra GL from Finland - Comments

"Performance, looks and comfort for a cheap price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Signal horn didn't work, replaced it.

Driver's seat heater doesn't work.

Central locking system is a bit mad, the motor on the right side doesn't work so you need to lock it from that door, or else the locks will open again due to the sensors reporting a lock not getting locked correctly.

Changed something in the front suspension, normal wear and tear.

It's something with the fuel injection, at rare occasions the car is a bit jumpy, pressing the clutch and stopping/restarting the engine quickly often solves that. This happens about once a month.

General comments?

The 2.0i DOHC engine gives me enough power and the Rial GS 15" alloys with Dunlop 195/50 tires combined with the 90B look with tinted rear lights and white front corner lights give the car a very good look.

The upholstery is in great condition, you can't tell the car has over 240 000 on the meter.

Apart for some small quirks now and then the Sierra is a very, very good car. No rust at all.

If you are going to get a sierra, get the 2.0i DOHC. An 1.6 is dreadfully slow, and the normal 2.0 OHC is thirsty. I get around on 7 liters per 100km, and that involves a lot of overtaking, speeding and just plain fun driving :)

The top speed is about 200-210km/h, I've had the meter up to 200 but then I didn't have the guts to go further :)

I had a similar problem with my central locking locking and unlocking several times on it's own, putting some grease on the key and working the lock several times cured the problem. I also fixed the boot lock by removing the barrel and soaking it in diesel. Not the cleanest method (don't put the key in your pocket for a while!) but it works.
