1985 Ford Sierra XR4i review from UK and Ireland
"Practical (if thirsty) muscle car!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Split fuel hose
Noisy rear wheel bearing.
General comments?
What a laugh. Big, torquey, unstressed V6 driving the rear wheels gives powerslides at will, and the car will seat five in comfort, and offer enough boot space for the weekly shopping. Goes like stink too, despite modest 150 bhp, and sounds lovely. Chassis very surprising - PAS gives quicker steering than standard Sierras of this age meaning it's easier to catch the tail on wet roundabouts. Doesn't roll much either, and very nicely set up. Feels very sorted for a car of this age.
Mechanically injected V6 is bulletproof, and a doddle to work on. Nice old engine as well which pulls hard from tickover, although has had enough by 5,000 RPM. Fuel bills are alarming - 12 mpg when flooring it, 18 mpg average. Such a laugh to drive though that you'll forgive it anything.
Keep it in good nick and you'll make money. I saw a clean 85 B recently sell for £2,000!
