Rear Crankshaft Oil seal needed replacing at 74000.
Numerous Tires, Exhausts, and a couple of batteries needed replacing over the nine years of ownership.
What a great family car.
Good performance and comfort, coupled with excellent economy. My 1.8CVH model still returned 32 mpg when I changed it.
It never failed to start, and never once let me down in nine years.
I only changed cars because at 12 yrs old the chassis had begun to rot, and it was not worth repairing.
It's a shame they don't make them now. I'd love a 2.0 GHIA.
Want a 2.0 ghia? I urge you to get one, you'll love it. I had one until recently and I'm still mourning it! It was an automatic and unfortunately the hydraulic pump in the gearbox blew. Far beyond my budget to fix alas, so I replaced it with a 1.8 LX. I swapped the door trims and the seats and a few oter items, so interior wise at least the ghia lives on! The LX is a good car, needs a bit of work to make the wheel arches good, but other than that its in good order. But back to the ghia, it was the best car I've ever had! Luxurious and quite nippy the 2.0i DOHC lump is still regarded as one of Ford's best. The ride was lovely and was surprisingly economical on a run. If you see a good one buy it! I promise you won't be disappointed.
