1992 Ford Sierra LX from UK and Ireland - Comments

27th Jun 2000, 17:21

"Very nice car - must be one of the cheapest cars to run today"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Fuel pump drive pin wore causing fuel starvation approx at 40,000 miles.

Water pump bearing gave up at about 50,000.

General comments?

Very cheap to run, surprisingly quick, although it doesn't like high revs. No rust whatsoever on this car which still looks like new after 70K miles.

Not a review as such, really a request for information. I'm looking to buy a 1.8LX Ford Sierra, got about £800 to spend, am I going to get something better than a tired old dog?

I've seen a couple of '92 onwards cars, not exactly mint, but not riddled with rust either. Is rust a big problem for the Sierra as I've heard once they start to rust, they really start to rust.

123,000 miles is on the car I've seen and it's in pretty good order in and out, a few rust bubbles round the rear wheel arches though (is that easy to sort or is it better to avoid), for sale at £695.

Any help or info will be much appreciated.
