1992 Ford Sierra Ghia from UK and Ireland - Comments

7th Sep 2004, 11:58

"I wish they still made this car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Head gasket blew about 1yr after I got the car. Seems to be OK after I fitted a genuine Ford gasket (don't fit a motor factors one)

Alternator died.

Rear outer mounts rusted through on front seats (in 04).

Rear Shocks replaced.

Crank sensor died.

General comments?

Even though I have a cat model it had very good fuel economy, about 34MPG with urban & 'A' road driving.

Performance was very good too with plenty of low speed torque allowing it to pull 5th gear from as low as 45mph! (1300 RPM).Runs out of power over 5500 RPM, but otherwise is quick.

Very well equipped car even by modern standards. It has air con, PAS, ABS, all e/win, front & rear heated screens, e/sunroof.All round disc brakes.

Love the rear wheel drive, far better grip in the wet & dry than FWD, though not in snow!

Only reason it's going is because it has been rear ended & is a write off : (

Forgot to say that it was very quiet too, very little road & tyre noise,in fact it was quieter than my replacement car a '97 BMW 323iSE,engine noise excluded.

The Sierra was more comfortable too,but then it didn't handle as well ;).

Surprisingly the Sierra (2.0ltr) had more low speed torque (below 2500RPM) than my BM (2.5ltr) has,& it was taller geared too!
