A Cossie would be just a fast as you could be in the 80s. Get a factory 250hp RS 500 and the power of an WRX is 265bhp; not much difference, and for weight the RS500 is 1200kg and the WRX 1400kg,

so it evens it out.

The Scooby has 1 advantage; more bhp, and the RS500 is lighter and has a much bigger turbo, so all of this evens it out to a fair race, so I reckon Top Gear should race these. It would be a 50:50 chance of each one winning.

Right, Evos and WRXs haven't moved on much. In the early 90s Evos and WRXs had about 230-240 bhp, about the same as an Escossie. Now the Evo and the WRX have about 300bhp - not much, 60 bhp.

I'm talking about handling technology.

Handling is for people who cannot drive. 4wd Cossies handle just a good as a computer mad Scooby.

Isn't that still a 20% hike? Seems like a lot to me...

Its all well and good appreciating a car for being amazing and ahead of its time, but you have to keep it realistic when comparing it with modern technology.

I've been told by a few people in the RS owners club that the 4wd Cossie can handle just as good modern cars. And in my opinion my 2wd Cossie handles well, but I've never really driven a new Scooby WRX, only a 2001 215bhp model; I didn't like it really.

"Handling is for people who can't drive" What sort of comment is that? Good handling flatters poor drivers and makes good drivers even better.

That made me chuckle. Anyways, I'm 17 years old and my dads handing me down a 2wd black Sierra Cossy for a restoration project, and I think I need some advice for how to help prevent head gaskets going,

thanks.

This will go on and on. I'm 33 and my dream has always been a Cossie, but now in the position to buy a good Sapphire for about 10k, I keep getting drawn on the Evo, don't know what to do. It's only a weekend car and the Cossie will only increase in value, other option is M3 e36, any advice would help.

If it's going to be a weekend car for fun, buy a Cossie. If it's an every day car, buy an Evo. The Evo's more reliable, but the Cossies are more fun and they hold their value better much better!

If it is a weekend car for blasting around to enjoy a pure fun driving experience, then get an Elise or better yet a VX220. Those things are proper fun go-karts, although getting in and out is a task in itself, LOL.

Have you ever heard of Sierra 304R Cosworth, the ultimate Sierra, 150 bhp per liter vs 112 bhp per liter on a normal 4x4 Cossie. This has enough grunt to keep up with a Scooby any day. This car has 300bhp stock.
