1987 Ford Sierra CLX review from Denmark
"This car is already a family member"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rusting
panels and front seat mounts.
Also some rust in bottom of front doors.
Mechanical
Rear differential broke at 310000km.
Engine started using oil. I was told that it was the valve "umbrellas". Repair estimated about $270. Didn't repair, but replaced engine with same O.H.C. model, but lower mileage (120.000km). Also replaced cam-belt.
A bit of shaking from rear at higher speeds, about 120 km/h. The propeller shaft might be out of balance, which almost is the only thing that hasn't been replaced yet.
The price for balancing the propeller shaft estimates $220.
Yesterday replaced thrust cable.
General comments?
Engine starts without problems every time. Even at -20 degrees.
Always reliable, although a bit noisy.
Suitable for all kinds of driving. Even Swedish forests.
This car is fast enough for me. Doesn't look like an old car. Has nice curves and looks/feels very aerodynamic.
Very cheap repairs. Lots of parts at brokers. Not much electronic. No fuel injection. Well suited for a handyman like me.
