"Superb, fun car to drive"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Horn has just broken, very annoying.

Alarm has never worked.

Prop shaft about to fall out (clanging) due to the terrible stick it was given by the previous owner.

Front disks warped when the car was bought.

Lower arm bushes replaced.

Back box replaced (full of water)

Choke got annoying so was quickly removed.

Thermostat went.

General comments?

Where to start, this is my first car, I am 17 and was amazed when I was insured.

Since passing I have driven many cars, golfs, clios, 306's etc etc, and none are as reassuring or shore footed as the sierra.

I can fill the car with 5 people and still make it up hills along with a boot full of there clag.

I have come to the conclusion that with good oil and general maintenance these cars will not break, I have been trying very hard and using a lot of petrol trying and after thrashing the car silly nothing has broken, bent or melted lol.

I have the carb version which is said to be slower, but due to no rev limit :) can do 70 in 2nd and 110 in third, not bad for £80!

Performance wise, I have a 2.0 rear wheel drive car while all my friends have poxy soap box puntos and fiestas so no real performance worries there, have seen 0-60 times on a dry road of sub 9 sec which says a lot about the car. The car rolls conciderably and am told this is due to it being the LX, but the car never looses grip unless well provoked.

My car has not power steering which is an ass, and no ABS. I replaced the front brakes with XR4x4 disks and callipers, the car stops very well.

I would really recommend that people take the sierra seriously, I have made BMW 318's and 320's look very silly even round twisty bits.

There is also very good club support from FSOC if you want advise on any thing go to google and type FSOC Sierra then go to the form they are superb and have helped me loads.

Only car I have driven which I found to be miles better is an XR4x4 V6 I want one of these lots and cannot begin to tell you how good they are, no body seems to want to insure me though : (

Yep, Sierras are great cars... i had a 1.6 with a 4 speed box for my first car hehehe. Not much power, but at least it was rear wheel drive!Have had 1.8's and a 2.3 diesel. All of them were reliable and cheap to run, but standard brakes are terrible... glad youve uprated yours mate. There don't seem to be that many left on the road compared to a few years back. Good luck with yours and watch out for that rear end on roundabouts;-)

Had a 1990 1.8 LX hatchback as company car which I bought after 5 years kept it until 2003 when the insurance costs were getting silly for an old car. One of my favourite cars of all time, very comfortable, looked great, still think the later Sierras are still class. As previous comment not too many around now and those that are tend to be the Sapphire variant, going all misty eyed and wished I'd kept it now.
