1994 Ford Taurus GL Police P52 review from North America

"A great police sedan that makes a great country driver!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

In a 1-10 scale, this little sedan has been a 9 out of a 10 overall.

I have no problems with this sedan; only thing is since this Taurus GL is 13 years old now, a little rust is visible on the lower RH rear wheel well.

A very mechanically sound car in and out.

General comments?

This Taurus sedan is no ordinary run of the mill "fordoor" Ford sedan. This is a model P52 Police Option sedan equipped with the 3.8L V-6 and dual exhaust for the 1994 model year. The 1994 would be the year before the Taurus P52 would be discontinued by Ford in the 1995 model year, thus making the P71 Crown Victoria; Ford's marque police package car.

This particular sedan I acquired from a small Iowa Town Marshall's office, with only 32,000 miles on the car in its 13 year patrol duty history. This sedan did not see any pursuit driving, constant idling, or hard treatment like most police or emergency vehicles do.

I have been operating this car on a daily basis as a work, and personal car. As of this date, the sedan shows 34,000 miles exactly without any signs of fatigue.

I recommend this P52 series Taurus to anyone who wishes to acquire one.

On one note, a word of warning to those wishing to purchase a Taurus police package car in more urban areas: The P52 Taurus was not a recommended police sedan for URBAN patrolling, whereas a P71 Crown Vic was. The Taurus would be plagued with transaxle failures; also following suit was the 3.8L V-6 was plagued by head gasket failures too. Suspensions were not made for bad city streets for the Taurus P52 either. If you wish to follow up on the reports on problematic Tauruses, please refer to reports from large city Police Departments that used these sedans. Ie: Baltimore, MD; Los Angeles County Sheriff, Los Angeles, California; and Omaha, Nebraska.

However, on my POSITIVE note; I strongly recommend this car if you buy one from a small town police or sheriff's department. The lower the miles, and minimal pursuit/emergency use is what makes this car a good little sedan. I was lucky to find this sedan, because it was a one of a kind P52 Taurus, with no complaints here.
