1988 Ford Taurus review from North America
"Long lasting"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rack + pinion at 105k, and the part was $65.
Complete brake job at 100k. Each brake part replaced in all 4 wheels, and cost $200 in parts.
Suspension + springs at 102.5k, and $600 in parts.
Bad radiator (when I bought the car) and I fixed it myself. I bought one (used) from a junkyard for $25.
The rear end is falling apart, and that will probably cost about $500 to fix.
The power windows are very slow, and at this point this might be happening to all other cars with power windows that were made in the 1980's; at least all the Fords.
Let me tell you, this car is not made of cheap plastic.
Just buy the right tools and the car repair manual, and fix the problems yourself. You will save a lot of money.
General comments?
It's a good car; it never gave me trouble on the road.
As a matter of fact, my parents also had a 1988 Taurus when it was brand new, and that looked just like mine inside and out. It was also very reliable, too. They had it for 10 years and it never broke down.
In hot and cold weather, this car starts right up and is ready to fly.
It has good engine power, and I get 27mpg doing 70mph.
It rides nice and smoothly, just like an average family car.
Parts are not expensive, which means the Taurus is a very popular car.
It never lets me down.
A/C still works and blows out very cold, and the heat blows out very hot.
The repairs I had to do were from normal wear and tear, so I'm not saying anything bad about the car. I'm sure this car will last another 20 years or so.
