"Marginal operation and performance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have had three transmissions in this Taurus SHO, and contacted Ford Motor Co. in Detroit about this issue, and was advised I have no recourse. There is no abuse by me of this car. I am 62 years old, and am not a hot-rodder.

I was told by an AAMCO Transmission dealer that they are aware of some weaknesses in the original design of the SHO tranny. They have assured me that they have rebuilt it to new specs, newer linkages and gears, and no more problems should arise. This was nearly 25,000 miles ago, and it appears they were right.

Hope all you SHO owners know those trannys can go any time.

General comments?

If Ford Motor Co. wants to have return customers, I suggest they listen to complaints that are cumulative. I have spent some time in chat rooms, and have heard from other Ford Taurus owners who have similar problems. There may be cause for a class-action lawsuit here.

All persons interested, contact me at MLE@NWLINK.com. My name is Andy Nickols.

Sounds like the same problem I had, only I gave up after the FOURTH starter was put in at 50,000 miles. I bought the SHO brand new in 95 and had it til the last starter was put in almost exactly three years later. The first one was under warranty. The second and third Ford would not help at all. The fourth one they paid for. The response the dealer gave me was simply "You're at the mercy of a part." My response?Unacceptable.

The SHO transmission needs the TransGo shift kit installed at rebuild. Then it will last. If you own or are looking at SHO's check out the experts. Look at SHOtimes.com. All repairs and upgrades are well written and all laid out.

So sorry to see such sad statements about this car. I bought my 1993 Taurus SHO 4.5 years ago. I have loved this car, as it has loved me. Very fast, very comfortable, and frankly incredibly reliable.

I did install a factory remanufactured transmission at 100,250 and rebuilt the top end, motor, at 89,000. The cars prior owners were not nice to it, but with a lot of love and $8,500.00 cash, we are great together.

This was an incredibly unique car from its time to current. It came stock with a Yamaha 3.2 liter 24 valve dual overhead cam boat motor. 93 was the best production of this model due to Yamaha's direct connection with the design of all motor and drivability components.

I have not yet found a car from this era, at its price, that has the comforts I've found in the 93 SHO. Stock 800 watt stereo from JBL, leather, moon roof, fully adjustable buckets, 4 wheel ABS, and disk brakes.

This car is a sleeper, if you don't own one, you don't know what she can do. I recommend that you check your shops out before you spend the dough. Don't blame manufacturing for mechanic's shoddy work. Call me at 425-281-2228
