I have to agree, these cars rock! I myself have owned over 20 cars, and this is the only one that actually makes me smile when I think about driving it. I test drove an 89 MTX about 13 years ago and passed on it for a Firebird... dumb move. I wanted one ever since and about two months ago, I was lucky enough to buy one. It is a 93 ATX, 3.2L,.030 over, modified exhaust, and it is blazing fast. I had a 5.0L Mustang with a stoutly built carbed 302 and there is no way it could have touched this SHO. Be forewarned though, if you have any problems with the car, Ford cannot and will not help you. If you have an SHO, or are planning on buying one, find an old Ford shop manual to purchase and study it. Mine has been my saving grace. Sadly, my SHO was abused by the previous owner which has meant that I have had to put in some work on it, but with a little time and patience, my SHO has become the most enjoyable car that I have ever owned.

I just bought a 93 SHO with 68k. I paid 3,800 which I thought was a little steep.

The SHO was lovingly maintained by the original owner; this was key in picking a good one.

I have been plagued by a few minor problems.

The A/C quit working and the eatc would not shut down, it worked OK other than that. I eventually had to pull the eatc and disconnect the blower fuse; the blower motor would not shut off and drove me nuts.

The other day the motor shut down without warning at a stop light. After 5 min it started again, but has since mysteriously shut down without warning 3 more times.

I must say that other than these quirky items, this car is a rocket ship that keeps on keeping on. Any help welcome.

To the comment above.

$3,800 is a good deal for a 68K mile SHO. They are extremely hard to find with that kind of mileage, and there are many ppl willing to pay more. But don't be mad/alarmed with the maintenance to come, because your car will be needing the 60K services. I did mine own my own, and it wasn't hard with a step-by-step guide I found on the internet that had pictures. But the parts are expensive.

The 60K website is:

And your fan is broken because of a faulty "blower control module", which can be picked up at a junkyard.

As for your other issue, I highly suggest that you join, www.shoforum.com and search previous threads which concern your issue.

This is nearly 5 years after the original review, so I assume the original writer may never see this, but what a well written review! It makes a SHO a very appealing car! I've owned a '92 MTX, and I have to agree with your assessment! Nicely done.

I agree, the SHO's are pretty quick for what they are, but they certainly aren't blowing Cobras, Firebirds, Camaros and Corvettes away.

Before I installed an L98 350 in my 89 Firebird Formula, it had a 305 TPI in it with a 5 speed. I was driving into town one evening when an SHO did a 'flyby' on me. It was an early 90s and from the sound of it, had a manual. I caught up to him and followed him around a hairpin curve to a straightaway. We both gunned it. I heard they were quick and he gave me an even run until about 100 before I put it in 5th and walked passed him fairly easily.

I didn't consider my car very fast as it had only 230hp and was bone stock down to the paper filter and log style exhaust manifolds. SHO's are good sleepers and can surprise some people (surprised me), but seriously, they aren't taking down Corvettes and Cobras. Even with the new engine and bolt ons, I know better than to mess with cars of that caliber.
