"OK"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My power steering fluid was running out,as soon as I put more in. I was told that it was my power steering pump and Rac. I have already spent $1,100 to fix the problem and the problem still exist.

General comments?

I believe Ford should recall all 1999 Tauras, and fix the power steering priblems.

I too have had the same problems. Total cost was $1300.00. Have you had any problems with your heater core. I have put in 3. I bought the car in 1999. Carly.

I had to replace my steering rack also and now I have to replace the heating core. I agree there should be a recall.

I too have a power steering problem. I am fixing it myself or trying to. So far I have replaced the pump, rack and pinion and the hose. Still it is intermittent with power steering. Anybody have any suggestions what to do next, I would welcome the email. Also my heater is going out too. I am ready to just trade this car in. At this point, its costing me a lot of time and money.

I purchased a used 1999 Ford Taurus in June or July of 2003. Since then, I've had to have several repairs done, including the power steering. Other problems that I've had are the line that connects to the gear shift (automatic) broke, the bearing in the belt went bad, & now I currently have another problem that's being looked into. Most likely, this new problem is pertaining to the brakes. I've only had this vehicle for about 9 months or so. I do not believe that this is normal wear & tear. I do not drive the car like it's an Indy 500 race car. It's been very frustrating because every time I turn around, I have to put the vehicle into the shop.

I have also had problems with power steering and just had both the rack and pump replaced. It is still making noise. After reading that many others are having the same problems Ford should recall the 1999 Ford Taurus for the power steering problems.

I myself am just starting to have problems with my 99 Ford Taurus SE. Had to replace the transmission in December and I am not wanting to spend any more money on repairs. Very discontent with the car and wish I would have bought a different make/model. The odometer just turned over past 100,000 miles, I think she's gonna blow!

My '99 Taurus wagon is also suffering the same power steering problems as everyone else. When I got it used in 2001 it needed a leaking badly and needed a new rack, which cost $600 or so (repaired by a non-Ford shop). Now, in 2004 the problem is coming back. Last time the mechanic said that it is common because the seals are not robust enough. You have to take the whole front end apart to get at it, which makes it a costly repair.

Mike.

I too have a 99 Taurus. Power Steering Pump, Transmission, Heater Core and Radiator. Sure doesn't sound like normal wear and tear after reading previous comments. Has anyone had success in approaching Ford? If not we all should.

Chalk up another 60000-ish 800.00 steering rack, as for approaching ford I called and e-mailed them with nothing, but lip service everyone should call,800-392-3673.

They need more complaints of the same type.

No car should have the same exact problem happen at the same point in mileage/60000-ish w/o a recall.

I also own a 1999 Ford Taurus. I have had multiple problems. In 2002 I had to have the rack and pinion replaced. The low coolant sensor has gone out, twice, once again in a year after Ford dealer had fixed it. In 2003 the clutch coil pulley and belt had to be replaced.

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SE with 60000 miles. I have owned the car 3.5 yrs. The heater coil has been replaced 3 times, the air bag sensor was replaced, power steering pump--replaced and rack and pinion were replaced. The car now stops when I'm driving at 60mph. It can be driven after it "rests" for an hour. It will also turn over, but refuse to start if it's been driven in hot weather. I took the car to the dealer who said the problem was the thermostat. That was replacewd, but it did NOT correct the problem. I HATE this car, but can't afford to get rid of it. Ford should be ashamed.

We have a '99 Taurus that is approaching 56,000 miles and we just replaced the power steering pump. As a general rule, power steering pumps do not go bad on cars with this low a mileage. After the repair, fluid was shooting up out of the reservoir. Further inspections indicated that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. The problem with the rack is probably what caused the pump to go out. Ford has a problem and they should consider a recall.

We also have 1999 Ford Taurus SE which has 66,000 miles. Friday all of sudden heard a noise and the power steering pump went out, when we went to have the estimate done it was said to do the rac & pinon also. We called Ford not at the number listed in the comments, but this number: 1-866-436-7332. This is Ford's Customer Relationship Center they have not been called on this problem and suggested that more customers call on this problem has they started a file regarding this issue by our call today. So I am urging all with the same problem power steering pump and rac & pinon to call the number listed so we can get a RECALL by Ford.
