The whining and whistling of the 2000 Taurus Flexi-fuel engine is the cam shaft, synchronizers, etc.Yes, that was replaced. Also it does do a lot of coasting. Hope the transmission goes.
(See below).
At 77,000 we're at the 3rd replacement of the brake system due to leaking and failures.
One power window motor failure. One starter replaced. Brake light sensor replaced.
One fuel injector replaced. One other
sensor replaced when the engine light came on.
Pinging of the engine with low-grade fuel is standard for the Flexi-fuel.
The dealership said, "Lady, this is getting ridiculous". I agree.
The car is comfy (a wagon) ; I suggest
any prospective buyer purchase a Ford
Extended Service Contract. I've made out over and above on the repairs. I only pay $50.00 a repair and get a free rental until a 100,000 miles or 6 years.
It would be lovely if the engine, transmission, or AC would fail before that.
That would be the only conditon I'd keep this unreliable car.
Only buy a Taurus 2000 with a Ford service contract extension.
I currently own an 1999 Ford, Taurus SE and have had an number of problems. I purchased the used car and it had 70,000 miles and now has less than 94,000. The transmission has proved to be horrible. This car jerks and pulls at intersections, stop signs and all the while driving -- it's scary -- I had an unknown leak in the water tank and it in turn made the engine run hot, blowing the head gaskets, I had to pay over$1,200 for the engine to be rebuilt to get the car out of the shop. I now have an jerky transmission and am at an lost because everyone know how much of an problem the very roomy and spacious Ford, Taurus has proven to be... these need to be removed from car lots everywhere.
