Don't ever buy a ford car there junk
i went back to driving my dodge it only was $100.00 in parts to fix it and I'm up to 222,000 miles and no problems.
"Don't ever buy a ford car there junk." My friend, you have discovered why FORD = "Found On Road Dead."
I had bad luck with a '93 Taurus. All done at 74,000 miles.
The 3.8L engine is far worse than the 3.0L in yours. 140,000 miles is a lot for a Taurus, you did better than most. I traded mine in with everything wrong with it, and I still owed $2000 on the loan. Did not even last the payment book with good care.
My Gosh!!! That's terrible! I was going to purchase a 95 Ford Taurus, because I heard it was Ford's best selling car. For around $1500. But knowing that the Ford Taurus has a notorious reputation of transmission failures, I simply cannot afford to waist money on one. And After reading these reviews, I won't buy one! I see why most people want to get rid of theirs!
I had my 95 SE for 3 years, and when the engine blew it had 272,000 miles on it. Only maintenance I ever had to do to it was replace the exhaust system (i took it into a ditch and ripped it off from cat - back) and tires every 15,00 or so.

Before 1995 the Taurus was a great car if, you didn't get the 3.8 engine. A lot more of them had problems. I have had 4 with the 3.0 engine. I bought them with over 90k and put on over 100k and they were extremely reliable.
NOTE: Be sure to flush the transmission fluid every 50k or so. I never had to replace or had any problems at all with my transmissions. I sold these wonderful cars after they had over 200k. All are still on the road. One had almost 300k on the clock with the original transmission. Oh, forget about the post 1995 Taurus. Those had a lot more problems.
We've owned a number of Fords over the years and never had a single problem with ANY of the transmissions. This includes several with well over 100,000 miles and one that actually made 325,000 miles.
