1992 Ford Thunderbird review from North America

"Good all around car for an earlier Ford"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Headlights have become yellow and have water residue in them.

Engine replaced at about 100,000 miles (Ran it with no oil)

Started making squeeking noises, found out ball joints needed replacement. The first time the shop just oiled them, 2nd time they replaced them. However about a year later, it happened for the third time. I ignored it this time and the front drivers side wheel actually fell off. After this all the ball joints were replaced by a different shop and the problem has vanished.

Check Engine Light constantly on, had it checked out in the past, unknown cause.

Can no longer run the AC or the engine overheats.

Every 4 months or so the engine will overheat for no apparant reason, also had this checked out and supposvely "fixed" but it still happens.

The heat has failed.

Paint is peeling and chipping on roof, badly faded and chipping elsewhere as well.

Interior discolored and faded by sun.

General comments?

Most of the problems I've encountered with the car have been from lack of maintence or my own stupidity, so I'm not really bashing on Ford for most of the problems. The car is now about 16 years old, and for 16 years old with the abuse I've given it, I feel its held up damn well. I'm suprised the thing still works. Id say this is certainly one of Ford's better and reliable models.

It's a bit big on the road, I feel like I'm driving the biggest thing on the street, but for its size it handles quite well. My allignments now way off, and my tires are nearly shot, so it doesn't handle like it used to, but once again this is from lack of proper maitence.

I've floored it on several occasions and despite its look and size, its actually pretty quick. It easily tops 120. The transmission has held up very well, never slips. It's a very all around car, its big enough to take your family for a ride in, and quick enough and powerful enough to have some fun in. You just may look a little weird in doing so.
