1995 Ford Thunderbird LX review from North America
"Super fly ride"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
There aren't many things that have gone wrong, it just normal wear and tear from the car. But there are some things that really annoy me when I am driving.
1. Had to replace the whole front suspension (control arms, struts, etc.). All were going bad.
2. Transmission is the main problem. I went to get the fluid change and found out there was a faulty gasket that needed replacing ($$$). The transmission is slow to downshift when you want it to move. You have to push the gas pedal half way for it to react. And when you want it to upshift, it holds on to that gear.
3. Why did Ford put a governor on this car??? (Pretty much tops out at 105 MPH)
4. Who the hell designed the cup holders??? They are located in the center glove compartment and can't hold anything bigger than a Coke can.
General comments?
Despite a few annoyances from the car, the Thunderbird is one of my favorite cars I have driven because:
1. Performance: The V8 has some power, but could use more torque down low. I'm 17 years old and I love to race this car. Once the tachometer reaches 3 grand, I'm off like a rocket. Many cars will get me at the jump, but I'll get them at the quarter mile. I love doing smoky burnouts. The power from the engine is smooth throughout the rev range. Hills, don't feel them. Mountains, feel like hills to me.
2. Comfort: This car is down-right comfortable. The seats are very supportive, and the rear seats are roomy. Even my dad once said out of the blue "God I like this car. It's big." Love the automatic climate control, just leave it on 77 and go. Oh, and did I mention that the car is very quiet.
3. Pricing: 6 grand out the door, tax, title, everything. Couldn't pass that up.
4. Reliability: Yes, I will admit I replaced a few things, but hey, that's just normal wear and tear.
5. Overall: A sweet ride...
