1995 Ford Thunderbird LX review from North America
"V8 and Comfort do go in the same sentence, when it comes to the Thunderbird"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The brake rotors warp about every 10,000 miles or so.
The plastic trim that runs along the the power drivers seat is broken, I hit it as I was getting out one day. Hard to find another tan color one to replace it.
I need to buy new tires. I have just about burned the current ones off of it.
General comments?
This is one of the best cars that I have ever driven.
The 4.6 is very reliable, and produces a lot of horsepower. I wish that I could get 20 or so more out of it though. I was beat by a Grand Prix GTP the other day and that just made me mad.
The design of the car is one that will never get old, it was way ahead of its time. It really helped bring out the rear end when I added a rear deck lid spoiler to it. The Super Coupes look the best with the ground effects.
The car handles like no other. I have driven Mustangs and they seem to want to drift more that the Birds. Monte Carlos are not bad, but the front wheel drive just takes away from the fun.
My previous car was 93 Mercury Cougar. It had the 3.8 V6, not as fast as the V8's, but it was not slow by any means. The Cougar was destroyed when a Caprice pulled out in front of me. I was not hurt at all. I look back on the accident and wonder if I had been driving something different than I probably would have gotten hurt. Both cars were totaled. I hit him with the right front of my car going 45 m.p.h. The Cougar is a twin to the T-Bird. Every thing is the same except for the rear windshield and taillights.
My cars paint is fabulous. I have seen others have problems with theres, but if you take care of the paint it should do OK. My color is "Light Evergreen Frost", it is a kind of green, like a light mint green.
After owning both a 3.8 and a 4.6 I would recommend the 4.6. The 3.8 (not so sure about the Super Charged ones) seems to have a lot of trouble with the heads, I have not had an engine problem yet.
Thank you for reading this long review. If you have any questions or if you would like to give suggestions on how to get the extra horsepower put it in a comment.
