1997 Ford Transit review from Australia and New Zealand
"Very uneconomical"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not long after purchase, the leaking diesel pump needed replacement at a cost of $6000AU.
Broke down again had to change 3 fuel hoses at 60 dollars each.
Currently sitting, has unknown problem- seems to be injector/pump orientated.
Also the air conditioning comes on and off, that is, the compressor does not stay on continuously, but rather pulses.
General comments?
In Australia these vans/trucks have a bad reputation for their pumps and other reliability problems.
They also seem to be geared very high. Maybe they are good for driving around the Londons tight streets
but on Aussie roads, they run out of legs very fast.
At 90km/Ph my tachometer is reading just over 3000 RPM in top gear.
I regret buying this vehicle- My other Australian Built fords are very reliable and more suited to Australian conditions.
