1996 Ford Windstar GL review from North America
"Looks great, runs badly, many worries"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The car threw a rod at 66,000 miles, the rod broke, even though the bearing did not seize up and oil flow was normal. The check engine light is always on. I had to replace a cracked timing chain cover 5,000 miles ago, however the engine still overheats, and leaks coolant all over the ground. I now have a misfire code for #3 cylinder. This engine only has 30,000 miles on it. All efforts to correct it have failed. Must tear down engine.
General comments?
The van does high speeds very well. It carries a lot. I find I spend more time watching my temperature gauges more than I watch the road. I sweat every backup on the road, and run the heater full blast even in 90 degree weather. I love the body and the color and being able to see everything around me.
