1998 Ford Windstar GL review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
At around 17,000 miles (which we did in the 1st 8 months!), the brakes went up. Ford said it was due to faulty bearings, and replaced the brakes, bearings and rotors under warranty.
At around 45,000 miles, the left rocker arm went up, and 5,000 miles later the right one went up.
At around 55,000 miles, the rack and pinion cracked. Luckily, I got it to my mechanic right before it cracked! It was like trying to steer a 73 Dodge Dart with the ignition off.
General comments?
We purchased the van new in Chicago, with only 6 miles on it and one month off the assembly line. I have to admit, our Windstar has been very reliable, thank goodness. I just replaced the original fan belts at 74,000 miles. I took it to our family mechanic at 75,000 miles for a physical. As far as he can see, everything is in top shape. No complaints. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
