1996 Ford Windstar GL review from North America

"A dog that can't be fixed"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear Power Window Motor.

Driver Seat.

Head Gaskets.

Transmission Seal.

Speedometer.

Horn.

General comments?

Didn't have the van a week before the rear window motor blew. Had to continually take the van back to the dealer for pain in the neck warranty

items. Then, when the van reached 36,300 miles (just 300 over the warranty), the head gaskets went. Of course, Ford at first wouldn't cover

any of the repairs, but enough complaining got them to pick up some. However, you don't really know how much since it's all a paper transaction.

They also found a leak in a transmission seal. This all only cost me $1,100. I see where they have extended the warranty on the 1995 Windstar

vans to 100,000 for the head gaskets. My question is, how would they been able to fix the problem in the 1995's before the 1996 model came out?

The best story happened about a month after the head gasket repair. I noticed transmission fluid leaking from the bottom of the van. Since I

had just had the major repair done, I took it back to the dealer to find out why. They told me that when I last had my transmission fluid changed, not by them, the pan gasket had been put on backwards. This repair would only cost me $100. I called the local shop that I take my transmission work to and he said bring it in. When I picked it up, I asked what it took

to fix it. He said, "I tightened the bolts". Dealers wonder why people have no trust or confidence in them.
