1992 Geo Metro LSi Convertible from North America - Comments

"Cheap, reliable, convertible for around town!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Leaking driver's side rear brake cylinder. Cheap fix and nothing else has broken since.

Changed all fluids, hoses, belts and tires when I took ownership.

New convertible top... old one had a hazy rear window.

General comments?

I bought this car used and have loved it. I knew it was just a small 3-banger, but I didn't care. It ran well, was cheap ($2100), was a convertible, and was in very nice shape cosmetically.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a NEW Geo Metro sedan, but not the ugly (my opinion) coupe. Too bad Geo/Chevy is no longer producing a Metro Convertible.

I'm 16 years old and drive a 1992 Geo Metro lsi Convertible which my parents bought brand new for around $13,000. We have a little over 120,000 miles on it. We had to replace the back window about two years ago, and search for new side rubber stripping/sealant because our cat would get in the car when the windows were down and the dogs would go after him and they ended up chewing up the rubber sealant (?). There isn't any A/C in it, but do you really need air conditioning when you have the top down? One bad thing; after we bought the car we had the dealer install cruise control which doesn't work anymore because the wiring came loose and the dealer didn't give us the wiring diagram so my dad can't fix it. It also needs more power, and the stock radio we had the dealer install in it wasn't that good - only the back two speakers worked with it. Also, the chain snapped on the clutch pedal a year ago, so we had to replace it, and now the pad on the clutch pedal is coming off. A few good things; we replaced the original battery the fall of 2001, it gets between 30 and 50 mpg, and I have a really nice 180 watt CD player/radio that you can store up to 30 different stations on. The trunk is nice and roomy, and there is lots of leg room for the driver and passenger (you can also fit a really small person in the back if you want to). It also has an airbag in the steering wheel.

For all you people out there with a hazy back convertible window. First wash that window to get the dust and droppings out. Then to bring it back nice use BRASSO, a silver polish, and a diaper cloth (clean) or other soft material. Do little section at a time using small round swirling motions. Keep the cloth wet. Yes, it will take some muscle, it is not a wipe on, wipe off approach. But it does work. I found out this trick many moons ago when I had my first CJ6 Jeep. Lots of vinyl to keep transparent. Vanilla Latte, my 1991 Chevrolet Sprint, enjoys this upkeep. Have fun and think good thoughts.

I have a 1991 Geo Metro LSi Convertible, recently obtained, and so far I like it very much, especially with gas mileage as it is.

I have a horn and radiator fan which do not work, though both parts are fine when hot-wired. I cannot find info on whether they share a relay or fuse in common? I would like to fix the problem. Any suggestions?
