1994 Geo Metro 2 door hatchback review from North America

"CHEAP, fun to drive, built tough, cost effective"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had a rough idle (well, it IS a 3 cylinder!), but I did some throttle and other adjustments to make it much tolerable.

The 12 inch tires need to be wider so handling is limited, but you quickly get used to it. Due to the limitations of the tread designs of a narrow tire, the lowness of the car and its light weight, this car does so-so with heavy snow, but does well with up to 5 inches of snow. If you are stuck, then good luck.

Radiator had punctured from the A/C condenser coming off from its poor design of its holders popping off. I tied down the condenser after wards. Finding the right fit radiator is also a challenge so be CAREFUL!

A/C compressor broke off the block, cannot be welded back on, the screws broke off of it.

The hatch lock and the prop is moody.

The doors are VERY hard to open from the inside, the door seals are "too strong" and creates a vacuum in the car to open the doors easily. The seatbelts are a pain, too.

General comments?

A great car that should be offered again in THIS country. I rarely drive my Grand Caravan V6 anymore and since I commute, I need to save on gas costs. I often get 52-55 mpg's and sometimes more, even when driven hard. Often, I will put the car in neutral and this car easily coasts for MILES, saving me $$$. They STILL make this car in China (Chang'an) and in INDIA (Maruti).

This car seems to be built tough, VERY reliable, very cheap to drive and fun, too. This car has no rust and I intend to keep this car till it blows up, perhaps in 7-8 years. The suspension is tuned to be soft to compensate for its short wheelbase so it might wallow if fully loaded, making it even more fun to drive. My kids like this car, it makes people smile and they wish they STILL had their Metro. Its smallness puts a smile on my face everyday.

Also, I highly recommend only the manual if you want to commute with this car and easily keep up with traffic. I drive 75-80 miles per hour everyday with it, 80 miles per day, 6 days weekly and it feels just fine.
