1994 Geo Metro review from North America

Most recently, the muffler has acquired a pinhole.

The driver's side window is sticking a bit when it's cold.

I bought the car with some rust on the driver side door and a little on the hood that I'm still planning to seal.

Anything rubber or cork on the car needed to replaced by the dealer when I purchased it (it had to have been sitting for quite awhile to be a 94' and have so few miles on it) : head gasket, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, tranny fluid line, gas line - I ended up with an almost-new car by the time it was sold to me for 1200.00.

Basic maintenance: tires, breaks.

It is very small and is very slow to gain speed, but seriously makes up for it in mileage: I drive about 20 miles one way to work, five times a week, and I fill the tank only once a week even with running other errands.

It has one of the worst safety ratings in NYS, which made for a very slight raise in my insurance premium, but it's still worth it as, again, it's very cheap on maintenance and gas.

It's incredibly reliable; starts up every time - even in -20 windchill.

I can get it up to 80 - 85mph on the turnpike and I still get fantastic mileage.

I would buy a new of these in a second if they still made them; as it is, I feel like I found a gem because it only had 34000 miles on it when I found it. Every time I have the car checked out, they tell me the engine still has quite a few years on it if I take care of it.
