1992 Geo Metro LX review from North America
"A fun, cheap and economical little commuter"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The driver's side window doesn't roll up all the way properly.
Smokes a little and burns oil.
Bad shimmy above 75 mph.
Difficulty shifting down to second from third gear.
General comments?
I have always been curious about this little fuel miser, and finally test drove a four-door Metro that I saw on a used car lot. I was surprised at how quick the little car was, and how much fun it is to drive.
I bought it on the spot for a measly $700. I got it as a commuter car to save the miles on my 2002 pickup and save $ on gas. For that cheap, I could drive it for two months, donate it and get another one and STILL be better off than the depreciation of a new car payment.
My first mileage test showed the car getting around 48 mpg, later tests are less than that, with around 40 mpg around town.
It cruises fine on the highway, and is very roomy, despite the fact that I am 6'6"!
I would definitely recommend these little cars as a second vehicle, especially with gas prices soaring. Plus, you'll get a lot of laughs when you pop the hood for your friends.
