In the years I had this car all that I ever replaced was a thermostat and the front brakes, and of course assorted bulbs.
Very dependable small car. The only thing that had a problem was a sticking thermostat causing it to run a bit hot, but that was years ago. All I ever done to this little thing was change the oil. I drove the crap out if it back and forth to work and it never once failed to start or even try and stall. The a/c did start to get weak near the end, I suspect it needed to be recharged. I guess this was the loaded Metro cause it had every option that a Metro could have. To only have a tiny 3 cylinder engine the little car had some pep I mean I wouldn't never have tried to race it, but it held up well in traffic. I did think the dash cluster was rather cheap looking it had some sort of weird block design straight from the early eighties. The sound system in the tiny car sounded as good as any alarm clock and I think my Metro even had an upgraded sound package. Another thing that I didn't care for was the strange seat belt design the car had they were hooked to the door and were suppose to remain buckled at all times... Oh the passenger side buckle did break at one point, but was covered by a recall of some sort. The paint and the Geo decals on the doors aways remained glossy and never lost there shine the way I've seen a lot of Metros do. The seats were comfortable. Gas mileage was always good, but I guess it might have been a lot better, but I have a really heavy foot and the little Metro was almost always full throttle. Howver the little car was killed while it was sitting in Walmart parking lot, a Chevrolet SUV of some sort came crusing through the parking lot a extreme speeds and came around a corner and slammed right into the Metro head first.. thank goodness I wasnt in the car. I was a complete loss I mean the engine was fully exposed, it almost seemed like the Chevy seemed to drive up on the hood or something the damage was so bad, the Chevy was messed up as well, but nothing compared to the Metro made me wonder what would have ever happened to me if I had ever been in wreck going speeds of 65-75mph.Anyway I went out and bought a 1997 Metro sedan which I don't like nearly as much, the little hatchback was a fun little car. I wonder how many miles it would have went sometimes I never expected it to last as long as it did-
If you had got hit "head-on" in that car? The answer is easy= = you would have been a big, dead, runny, glob of goop. They could have bured you in a one gallon pail. That is what is so wonderfull about small cars like that. Sound inviteing????

Actually, the Metro got decent safety ratings back in the early '90s. Three stars for the driver and four for the passenger in a 35 mph frontal crash. Not bad for such a small car, IMO.
