1990 Geo Metro from North America - Comments

"The best car I have ever owned in my life!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Brakes.

Front end (inner and outer tie rods and 150,000)

Driver side window (incredibly annoying)

Cup holder.

In the end I had two burnt cylinders because I was not using 5w 30 oil. using oil that is too thick will cause the valve lifters to stick open which will burn the valves and cause a miss. this is THE leading cause of engine issues with the metro.

The a frame rotted away - the ultimate cause of demise.

Not really anything else... i had to replace the

windshield, but it was a rock from a truck's fault!

General comments?

It never had a/c and it was still comfy in the summer with the windows down.

When I bought it the body needed some work, but Geo Metros are fairly common and with some regular trips to the junkyard we were able to procure all the body pieces we needed to make it quite nice looking.

It was comfy to ride, although a little loud.

It got ridiculously amazing gas mileage.

I loved it with all my heart and I put so many miles on it and it never wronged me.

For the size of the engine it was zippy enough, although at 65-70 you just felt bad pushing it any faster.

When my mechanic denied my inspection due to rust I physically cried.

I am planning on buying a 1990 Geo Storm next...that's how much I loved my car and believe in the Geo products. I think someone needs to get busy making small, economical, gas saving cars like this again.

It was small, cute, practical and my friends marveled on the amount of miles and little wore I put into it.

I have a 1995 Metro 3-Cylinder and I was about to trade it in when I noticed the gas prices jumping way up, thank god for the little Metro.

WRONG. The leading cause of engine issues for the 3 cylinder engine is in the EGR system. It has a bad tendency to plug up with carbon, thereby allowing the combustion chamber temperatures, most notably on the 3rd cylinder, to get too high, therefor literally burning the valve away. This leads to low fuel mileage, rough idle and loud tapping noises in the head as the eroded valve slaps back into it's seat.
