1996 Geo Prizm review from North America

The shocks on the car were bad when we bought it.

Starter failed right after we purchased it.

Oil leak a few weeks later.

I've had two Geo Prisms. They were great little runners, comfortable, and fun to drive.

On both cars the problems were in the same places: the oil had a leak and a busted seal that needed to be replaced (I'm assuming that is what went wrong with the first one) and the starter died on both cars both at about the same mileage.

I had my first Geo for about 7 years before the oil started leaking all the time. When it leaked out and just died I just junked it because the back window was blown out and it just wasn't worth the time or money. Had I realized that it was probably just the cap and seal I could have fixed it because the second one had the same exact problem.

The first one also had a problem with the timing belt coming lose where it got me stuck on the on ramp to a bridge while 9 months pregnant while in my jammies and a 4 year old with me. I was not happy.

The second one my ex decided to buy with some problems with the shocks. To be honest the car looked like it had been broken in half and pieced back together, but it lasted.

Both were sticks and quite zippy for what it was.

I'd buy one again.

About the Camaro and would I rather have the Geo: I loved my Camaro and wouldn't have traded it for anything had the driver of the Vega not smashed into the side of my car and destroyed it.
