1996 Geo Tracker 2 Door 4X4 Convertible from North America - Comments

"A very reliable, hardworking vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Recently, my Tracker began stalling out at stop signs, and I am currently having a clutch repair estimated.

I also had to have the 4 wheel drive hubs cleaned and re-built at about 100K.

I replaced the brakes once, tires once, and basic items like windshield wipers and headlights.

It does tend to blow around in high wind, but that's expected for an SUV.

Finally, the Service Engine Soon light has been on for three years; no mechanic could find the problem, so I ignored it. So far, so good!

General comments?

This car is GREAT! It goes through anything while in 4X4 - snow, mud, ruts, my woods, you name it.

Very reliable. It has always started, and runs well.

It's definitely fast enough for the curvy roads of PA!

This is a car I can count on, and the amount of repair I have put into it for the 100K I have put on it seems reasonable.

But, if you buy one, get A/C!! Life is horrible in the summer without it, even with the top down.

It does this old grandma's heart good, to hear others of all ages, praising my favorite ride. I have owed so many cars, thru my life, that I count them instead of sheep, when I can't sleep. The Geo Tracker Convertible seems to be the one I have enjoyed, the most. I have had MGAs, MGBs, a Merck SL190, Datsun 240 and 260Zs, Chevy Cavaliers, a very hot Chevy Baretta, Caddies, BMWs, and lots of trucks. I, also, owned my share of VWs, from Bugs, to super Bugs, and Rabbits a plenty, with a Micro Bus or two for the long road trips. I did manage to own a Porsche 914, and for a summer had a 911. Those were fine cars. There were more vehicles in my parade but space limits me. Therefore, knowing,I have to be really comfortable in a vehicle, in order to appreciate it,I was pleasantly surprised that This little Geo suited me so well. I think I'll keep it for a while longer. Hardly any problems, of any consequence have occurred in l81K. And as I have heard so many times in my 60+ years.."If it ain't broke, don't fix it."That's my Geo Tracker Soft top and me. Enjoy the good things in life!! Party on!!!Granma Beth.
